In 2Q10, EDR's ScoreKeeper Phase I ESA index continued the volatile trend established in the first quarter of this year. Beginning at 84.8 in March, the index fell to 76.2 in May before increasing to close the quarter at 81.5. Despite recent monthly fluctuations, the index, which measures changes in overall U.S. Phase I ESA volume by month relative to a January 2006 baseline, now stands well above 67.1 one year ago. Much of the Phase I activity in the second quarter was associated with continued environmental due diligence for the FDIC on failed bank assets, the expansion of telecommunications networks and, to a lesser extent, traditional commercial real estate investment.
